My Therapeutic Approach
I truly believe that everyone deserves the gift of therapy. Whether it is a difficult experience or simply a curiosity about yourself that brings you to therapy, the experience can be truly life changing. You deserve a safe space, free from judgement in which you can be heard and supported. I strive to bring this feeling to my therapeutic relationships, so that we can explore various patterns that may leave you feeling stuck, anxious, or depressed. By finding these patterns we can help you to develop new ways of thinking in order to live your life in the way that feels most meaningful to you.
Who I Work With and Areas of Specialty
My main specialties are anxiety and panic disorders in children and adults. I am passionate about helping others to find a sense of relief, balance and self understanding. My second area of expertise is working with families starting with women during pregnancy and postpartum, young children ages three to eleven, and parents needing support. In addition to these groups I also work with adults.
I work with young children who are having behavioral issues affecting their school and/or home life. I support parents through parent coaching and understanding how their current parenting style may be tweaked to help their child develop their ability to self-regluate.
I work with women who are pregnant or are adjusting to new parenthood. This time in a woman’s life is full of emotional and physical experiences that can make this transition very difficult.
In my work with young adults in their twenties and thirties I help address issues that inevitably come up as they transition through life. These include relational issues, career decisions, dating life and the many questions that we come across as we grow through adulthood.
How I Came to Therapy and Training Background
I have been drawn to the creative arts and understanding the human psyche from a very young age. This interest led me to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where I received my BFA in Theater Performance. I spent my post undergraduate years in Los Angeles starting and running a record label while doing theater. After a decade of balancing theater and touring the world I decided to move back east in the pursuit of higher education. I completed my Masters degree in Drama Therapy at New York University. My graduate internships in which I began to specialize in children and anxiety based disorders were at Mt Sinai Hospital in Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry and the New Haven VA Hospital working with veterans in hospice care. Post graduation I worked at Mt Sinai on the Child/Adolescent unit before moving to Kings County Hospital where I joined the Obstetric Psychiatry team. After several years in inpatient psychiatry I started my private practice.
